Edinburgh

We arrived in Edinburgh at the height of the Fringe Festival - the yearly month long festival that overtakes Edinburgh every August. This accounted for the extra 70,000+ people that filled the streets and city during our trip.

Lining the historic mile-long street were street performers, artists, comedians, and musicians. We spent half of the day in the castle, reading about the war and looking at military uniforms, jewels, and paintings. The rest of the day was spent on foot amongst the locals and festival-goers.

This city creates a balance between old and new that we didn't feel in other places. Old castles, brick walls, stone buildings, cobble streets - and then in the distance you can see new developments like ferris wheels and sky scrapers. 

I most enjoyed the wet weather we had on this particular day. It was warm, bright, and drizzling which made for the perfect soft glow for all the buildings.
