The Highclere Castle

The Highclere Castle is like a world all on its own. Downton Abbey was filmed here. It took much of its story from the real history that took place within these walls.

Despite all the beautiful sights within the castle, I found that the best part about our day here was enjoying the surrounding gardens.

And sadly, no photography was allowed within the castle walls… so you’ll just have to watch Downton Abbey to see just how magnificent the interior is. I recall there was one large room in the center of the building with luxurious wallpaper made of printed leather from Italy - quite the expense. The views from the bedroom windows were breathtaking: acres and acres of green grass and trees untouched by anything man-made. I can just dream of waking up in this castle and taking a walk along the gardens.
